Thornhill Road is a EnerPHit certified retrofit of a 1950s detatched house. Project measures included a new PIR insulated ground floor slab, EPS external wall insulation, mineral wool pitched roof insulation, PIR flat roof insulation and green roof; triple glazing , MVHR, low water use appliances and sanitary ware and solar PV.The project was carried out by clients, architects and builders with no prior knowledge of Passivhaus techniques and building, with the support of experienced energy and airtightness consultants. The total budget was under 1000 per m2 including design, build, certification and finishing. The final result of airtightness at 0.32ACH and 23kWh annual heating demand demonstrate that, with care, novice teams can achieve great retrofit results.
